Wunya: A Celebration of First Nations Flavours in Our New Menu

Looking to create a meaningful and memorable catering experience? UniSC’s new Wunya Menu, available at our Sunshine Coast campus, thoughtfully weaves First Nations flavours and storytelling into your event.
Rooted in the traditions of the Gubbi Gubbi people, the Traditional Custodians of the land, the menu offers more than just food—it’s a cultural experience. Tailored options are available for corporate functions, conferences, and networking events, giving your guests the opportunity to connect with Country in a respectful and engaging way.

Wunya means welcome
Through our relationship with My Dilly Bag’s Aunty Dale and research of local foods, we have created a menu that places native Australian foods at its heart. Each dish has been carefully crafted to honour the flavours and stories of these ingredients, bringing a unique and meaningful dining experience. In the Gubbi Gubbi language, wunya means ‘welcome’ and we extend this warm welcome to all who experience our new menu.

Featured dishes

Designed for campus events, the Wunya Menu offers a variety of options, from break-time treats to something more substantial.

Kippa Scones
Light and fragrant, these scones are infused with strawberry gum, topped with pepperberry cream, and served with a tangy Davidson plum compote – a take on a familiar favourite with a uniquely Australian twist.

Wunya Bakehouse selection
As part of our break menu options, the cinnamon myrtle carrot cake and myrtle brownie with wattle seed dust provide the perfect balance of sweet flavours with the incorporation of bushfood flavours as the standout.
Coconut Poached Chicken Gurwinda Harvest Bowl.
A nourishing, gluten-free, dairy-free bowl featuring rice noodles, mint, cucumber, and coriander salad, topped with crispy shallots, lime, Davidson plum, and macadamia dressing.

More than a meal

We are committed to incorporating First Nations food knowledge into our menu as an ongoing practice, not just a special feature. By embracing these ingredients and techniques, we aim to honour the First Nations people of this land in a meaningful way, celebrating the rich culinary heritage that has shaped this Country for thousands of years. Through continuous learning and understanding, we hope to make these traditions a natural part of our everyday cooking.
