In partnership with Queensland South Native Title Services (QSNTS), the Kabi Kabi Peoples Aboriginal Corporation hosted the Summit with the theme ‘Navigating the spaces in between’.
Between the opening smoking ceremony and the final gala dinner (with a performance by Christine Anu), the Summit featured more than 120 presentations and workshops, with 351 presenters. The day-long Youth Forum was a highlight, drawing together native title holders, students, community groups and advocates to reflect on and celebrate their individual and collective experiences. The keynote speech by The Honourable Linda Burney MP, made just days after being sworn in as the first Aboriginal woman to serve as Minister for Indigenous Australians, was deeply significant to this event.
“With so many people travelling from remote places, the location was ideal … and the venue was awesome. When many delegates lingered after the official events ended, everyone pitched in to put on an impromptu dinner that everyone enjoyed and appreciated.”

Kabi Kabi Country, also known as Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, was chosen as the destination to host the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) Summit. The summit attracted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, academics, stakeholders, legal experts, community and cultural sectors and government from around Australia.
Just 90 minutes’ drive north of Brisbane and seven minutes’ drive from the Sunshine Coast Airport, the Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort and the Sunshine Coast Convention Centre served as the perfect setting to host more than 1,200 delegates across this five-day, national event.
We’re so proud of the feedback received from this and many other Business Events held in our region.
